How to Ask About Peanut Oil in Chinese

Chinese questions for peanut oil, sauces and shared cooking equipment, with a clear card to show restaurant staff.

Ordering in China

Ask about the whole preparation

A question about peanut oil is a useful opening, but peanuts may also be in sauces, garnishes or shared preparation. A preference for a different oil does not tell staff that you have an allergy.

Say what matters before ordering

If you have a peanut allergy, use the first sentence below, then ask about the dish and equipment. Ask staff to check with the cook. Removing visible peanuts does not establish what is already in a sauce.

Why the type of oil matters

Allergy guidance distinguishes highly refined peanut oil from unrefined oil. Do not guess the type from a dish's appearance. Follow your clinician's individual guidance and confirm the restaurant's actual oil and handling. If staff cannot establish the details you need, uncertainty is not confirmation that a meal is suitable.

A few words to show or say

Show the Chinese to staff, or use the Pinyin as a pronunciation guide.

Use only if true, before ordering. The questions below alone do not declare an allergy.

我对花生过敏。

Wǒ duì huāshēng guòmǐn.

I am allergic to peanuts.

Ask about the actual dish, not the restaurant in general.

这道菜用花生油吗?

Zhè dào cài yòng huāshēngyóu ma?

Is peanut oil used in this dish?

Ask the cook to check ingredients, including peanut paste.

酱料里有花生吗?

Jiàngliào lǐ yǒu huāshēng ma?

Are there peanuts in the sauce?

Use after explaining the peanut allergy; an answer needs kitchen confirmation.

厨具和炸油会共用吗?

Chújù hé zháyóu huì gòngyòng ma?

Are utensils and frying oil shared?
